‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, which started with the resolve to change the face of rural India and provide basic facilities to the last man standing, has now taken the form of a big mass movement in the villages of Uttar Pradesh. The most vibrant and inspiring example of this is the Gram Panchayat under Masauli development block of Barabanki district. Ichauliya Is being seen in. In this area which was once remote and backward, today pure drinking water is reaching homes directly through pipelines, which has completely changed the social and health scenario here.

Freedom from long queues and contaminated water

Till some time ago, morning and evening time in Ichauliya and its surrounding villages was spent only in arranging water. Villagers, especially women and children, had to stand in long queues at hand pumps for drinking water. This problem became even more acute during summer when traditional water sources and ponds dried up. Apart from this, the villagers had to suffer from various stomach and skin diseases due to water containing arsenic and sand coming out from the ground.

Special Ground Report: 'Jal Jeevan Mission' became a mass movement in Ichauliya village of Barabanki, the fate of more than 2100 villagers changed.

After the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal Yojana), this entire struggle has now become history. Now village women do not have to step out of the house to get water.

Modern Water Structure of Ichauli: New Model of Development

In Gram Panchayat Ichauliya of development block Masauli, this scheme has been implemented not only on paper but on the ground in a very modern and technically sound manner. The new water supply infrastructure established here is no less than that of an urban township. The following state-of-the-art systems have been developed under this project:

  • High Capacity Overhead Tank: A huge and high overhead reservoir has been constructed to ensure uninterrupted supply of water with uniform water pressure to the entire village.

  • Deep bore tube well: Deep boring has been done to reach the pure and safe level of ground water, which provides clean and sand free water.

  • Automatic Pump House System: The entire process of water re-filling and supply has been made automatic, eliminating the scope for human errors.

  • Solar Energy Based Operating System: The biggest feature of this plant is that it is environment-friendly. Unaffected by power crisis, the entire system is powered by solar energy, thereby saving electricity bills and water supply is never interrupted.

  • Strong boundary wall and security arrangements: To keep the entire complex safe, a strong boundary wall and tight security arrangements have been made so that public property remains safe.

  • Extensive Pipeline Distribution Network: A strong and durable pipeline network has been laid covering every street and every house of the village, so that even the families living at the extreme end can get complete water.

Positive change in the lives of 2172 people

Through this modern and solar-powered system, at present approximately 2172 citizens Clean, safe and chlorinated drinking water is being provided at regular intervals on daily basis.

This success story of Ichauliya has now become a ‘role model’ for other backward villages of Masauli block. This is direct evidence that if government schemes are implemented with the right technology and local public participation, the transformation of rural India is not far-fetched.
