There are several dates throughout the year dedicated to appeasing displeased ancestors (*Pitris*). Performing religious rituals, prayers, chanting, and penance on these days can pacify them. While auspicious activities are generally prohibited during *Malmas* (also known as *Adhik Maas* or the intercalary month), this month—which is dear to Lord Vishnu—holds great significance for worship and spiritual practices.
Coincidentally, in the *Jyeshtha* month of *Samvat* 2083, the *Amavasya* (new moon day) of *Adhik Maas* falls on a Monday. The day immediately preceding *Somvati Amavasya* is *Pitri Karyeshu Amavasya*, considered the most auspicious day for appeasing displeased ancestors. Let us explore in detail the remedies that can be beneficial on *Pitri Karyeshu Amavasya*.
**Signs of *Pitri Dosh***
Highlighting the significance of *Pitri Karyeshu Amavasya*, Astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, explains that certain dates in the *Samvat* calendar are exceptionally special. Devotees stand to gain significant benefits because the *Amavasya* of *Adhik Maas* falls on Monday, June 15th. *Pitri Karyeshu Amavasya*—a day dedicated to appeasing ancestors and mitigating *Pitri Dosh* (ancestral affliction)—falls on June 14th, the day before *Somvati Amavasya*. Ancestral displeasure often leads to persistent obstacles in one's endeavors. Signs of *Pitri Dosh* include tasks going awry at the last moment, hindrances to progress, nightmares, and seeing snakes or images of ancestors in dreams.
**How to Appease Displeased Ancestors**
Astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri notes that the scriptures attach great importance to *Pitri Karyeshu Amavasya*. On June 14th, performing rituals such as *Pind Daan*, *Tarpan*, reciting the *Pitri Gayatri* mantra, offering *Tilanjali* (sesame seeds and water) and *Jalanjali* (water) to ancestors, and conducting *Havan*, chanting, and penance can pacify displeased ancestors, allowing them to return to their divine abode contentedly. Pandit Sridhar Shastri further explains that rituals such as *Pind Daan*, performed for the sake of one's ancestors, will yield benefits only if completed before 3:00 PM on June 14. Performing these rituals and subsequently donating items cherished by the ancestors—according to one's means—will accelerate stalled tasks and open the doors to progress.
